Dallas Morning News, Girls Inc. execs top Distinguished Leaders Series
The upcoming Dallas Morning News Distinguished Women Leaders Lecture Series (DWL) will feature Rena Pederson of The Dallas Morning News & Joyce Roché of Girls Incorporated.

The series was formed by the Greater Dallas Chamber to:

  • Educate the public about women leaders in both the profit and non-profit sectors
  • Identify future opportunities for women in leadership positions, and
  • Highlight the achievements of women while focusing on the challenges they have overcome.

"What’s Next? Women Redefining Their Dreams"

October 23, 2001

The next installment of the DWL series is October 23 featuring Rena Pederson, vice president and editor of the editorial page of The Dallas Morning News, the largest paper in Texas and the Southwest. Pederson has been a pioneer for women since her earliest work with United Press International and Associated Press. Her book, What’s Next? Women Redefining Their Dreams in the Prime of Life draws on the experience of women who have made bold mid-course changes. Pederson offers that dreams should not be deferred when she says "Don’t wait for your ship to come in. Ships don’t make house calls."

"Leading from the Heart: A Transition from Corporate to the Social Sector"

November 15, 2001

Joyce Roché, national president and CEO of Girls Incorporated, will close the 2001 DWL series. Roché was a trailblazer in the corporate world for 25 years as president and COO of Carson Products Company and as the first African-American vice president of global marketing at Avon Products, Inc. Previously featured on the cover of Fortune magazine, her vision for empowered businesswomen begins with her mission to inspire all girls to be strong, smart and bold.
