Expansion picking up in Southern Sector

The new Pinnacle Park Wal-Mart Supercenter, at I-30 and Cockrell Hill Rd. in Dallas, is a sign of the continued resurgence of economic development in Dallas' Southern Sector.

The new 203,622-square-foot supercenter will employ approximately 380 employees. Along with Wal-Mart, Lowe's Home Improvement will be opening within the next month with 150 new employees.

During the last three years, the Chamber's focus on the Southern Sector has translated into corporate relocations and expansions that have created 2,300 jobs. For 2003, there are 825 new jobs anticipated for the area.

Why is this sector of the Metroplex adding jobs? The answer is simple: accessibility provided by major highways and its proximity to airports. With access to major interstates such as I-20 and I-30, companies can move their products quickly and efficiently to market. Companies are attracted by the availability of large parcels of undeveloped land and the ease of recruiting workers.

For the last three years, local leaders and Chamber staff have been heavily involved in planning, establishing infrastructure and recruiting tenants for Southern Dallas and the Oak Cliff area. The population of the Southern Sector is at 500,000 and growing. With committed leadership, careful planning and the right resource in place, continued growth is ahead south of I-30.
