Chamber honors partners in Closing the Gaps campaign

The Greater Dallas Chamber has honored area colleges and school districts for their efforts in the Closing the Gaps campaign to boost college enrollments.

The statewide program aims to increase enrollment in higher education by 600,000 students by the year 2015.

One facet of the campaign is the Go Centers program, on-campus sites with Internet access and information on career exploration, college admissions, financial aid and preparation for college. Each Go Center is a hub connecting several college-preparation programs connect in each school.

In the DFW region, there are over 20 Go Centers on high school campuses. Local community programs are working with the court system to send troubled students to Go Center for community service. Students fulfill their community service hours and are also learn how to pursue their education after high school.

Partners in the program include: Allen ISD, Boles ISD, Bonham ISD, Carrollton Farmers Branch ISD, Dallas Can Academy, Dallas ISD, DeSoto ISD, Irving ISD, McKinney ISD, Coppell ISD, Boys and Girls Clubs, Brookhaven College, Cedar Valley College, Collin County Community College District, Dallas County Community College District, Eastfield College, LULAC, Mountain View College, Navarro College, North Lake Community College, Skills to Empower Youth Socially (STEPS), Texas A & M at Commerce, Southwestern Christian College, Texas Woman’s University, The Learning Bridge, The University of Texas at Dallas, The University of North Texas and many others.
