Job shadowing program shows students world of work

More than 550 students from Hillcrest, W.T. White, North Dallas, Sunset, Thomas Jefferson, Samuell, Molina, Wilson, Bryan Adams and Spruce high schools spent a day with area businesses last month as part of the Chamber's 2005 job shadowing program.

Students were introduced to the many different careers available in a single company and encouraged to study hard and continue their education. The program reaches out to today's students and tomorrow's workforce, bridging the gap between education and the business community.

DISD has over 15,000 ninth-grade students--but less than 7,000 will stay in school and graduate, and less than 4,500 will continue on to college.  Increased dropout rates reduce the number of well-educated workers and slow DFW's economic development.

To learn how you can get involved with job shadowing in the future, please contact Shannon McCullough at 214-746-6788 or smccullough@dallaschamber.org.
