You’re never to young to learn: getting a jump start on pre-K education

Early learning is one of the hottest topics in American education today. The Chamber’s Focus on Education breakfast Aug. 21 will take an in-depth look at the importance of pre-kindergarten education.

According to Pre-K Now’s annual state-by-state review of spending proposals, “Governors in 29 states [made] early childhood education a top priority” during the most recent legislative session…If all of those plans were approved, $800 million more would be spent on state pre-K programs in fiscal 2008, and more than 100,000 additional 3- and 4-year-olds would be served in such programs.”

Education Week, quotes Pat Levitt, a professor of pharmacology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center: “Neuroscience tells us that it’s not our genes alone that make us who are…brains, like skills, are built over time.”

The Aug. 21 breakfast will feature a panel of area experts on topics such as brain development, legislation for Texas, and the shape of early childhood education in North Texas. Businesses will learn how they can play a vital role in early learning.

The event,  part of the Chamber’s Focus on Education breakfast series, will be held 8-9:30 a.m. Aug. 21 at  the Park City Club, 5956 Sherry Lane, Dallas,.  Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m.. Education Initiative sponsors are IBM and Southwest Airlines.
