Education, transportation at top of state legislators’ priorities list

At its May legislative luncheon, Chamber members heard state representatives discuss legislation and important business issues to watch for next year.

The Chamber program included state representatives Myra Crownover, Diane Patrick and Allen Vaught.  Representative Linda Harper-Brown was also in attendance as a guest and will be on a panel for our November 12th legislative luncheon.

Rep. Crownover said she planned to re-introduce legislation that would require all work environments to be smoke-free. Rep. Patrick addressed education and TAKS test reform now in progress. Rep. Vaught told Chamber members he wants to halt diversions from transportation funding and find new funding sources for maintenance and new mobility projects.

The Chamber plans four additional legislative luncheons. The July 17 luncheon will feature State Sen. Royce West and state representatives Dan Branch, Tan Parker and Marc Veasey. The University of Texas at Arlington will be the presenting sponsor.

TXU Energy was presenting sponsor for the May luncheon. Silver sponsorship opportunities are available for the remaining programs in the Legislative Luncheon Series. Tickets are $45 for Chamber members and $60 for non-members.
