What do you want to be when you grow up? Help DISD students decide

The Chamber, in partnership with the Dallas Independent School District, will help shape tomorrow’s workforce through this year's Job Shadowing program.

For most students, the answer to the question “what do you want to be when you grow up?” lies in the careers and occupations they have been exposed to. Through the Job Shadowing program, the Chamber and Dallas ISD can help shape tomorrow’s workforce and expand the horizons of Dallas ISD eighth graders by introducing them to new industries and future career choices.

Job Shadowing links education and business by showing students real-world occupations and the opportunities available after graduation.

Last year’s job shadowing program placed 500 DISD students in companies throughout the Greater Dallas area. Businesses from various fields and industries treated students to a fun-filled day of activities and opened a window into their future.

During this year’s Job Shadowing program Sept. 29-Oct. 3, students will shadow dozens of medical, technical and managerial professions. Children’s Medical Center Dallas, one of nine participating medical organizations, provided: a general tour of the hospital, a lab tour, an introduction to the human resources department, and a presentation of volunteer opportunities.
