Take a day, make a difference in the lives of DISD eighth graders

The Dallas Regional Chamber is recruiting business partners for its Dallas ISD Texas Scholars program.

The program puts business and community leaders in eighth grade classrooms to discuss the importance of good decisions in the lives of students.

Volunteers use a PowerPoint presentation that outlines life after high school, including workforce and college options. Presenters share their own life experiences with students, dialogue about what employers look for when hiring, and discuss scholarship opportunities and financial aid options.

The program, set for Oct. 20-31, takes one day of the volunteer’s time, but the impact is huge. A copy of the presentation can be found here. The Chamber trains volunteers from area companies. Volunteers and school officials jointly set dates and times for the presentations.

Texas Scholars is a perfect opportunity to make a huge impression on the future workforce of Dallas, to encourage students to think, dream big and set high goals.
