Vought bringing 3,000 jobs to Dallas County
Vought Aircraft announced that it is going to bring 3,000 new jobs to its southern Dallas County site. This announcement is a windfall of staggering size for Dallas-Fort Worth. The project ranks as one of the single largest announcement of jobs in the U.S. in 2004. Expansion of Vought’s operations will help attract other business, jobs and economic development for years to come.

Poll finds DFW business optimistic for 2004
The economic recovery has finally taken hold in Dallas/Fort Worth according to local business leaders.  Approximately two-thirds of businesses responding to the Winter 2004 DFW Monitor, a business confidence survey conducted by the Greater Dallas Chamber, report that conditions in both their industries and the larger regional economy are better now than they were six months ago.  This is well above the Fall 2003 survey results when 57 percent reported improved conditions within their industries over the prior six months and 50 percent indicated an improved regional situation.

Former Commissioner of Education in Dallas March 31
Jim Nelson, former commissioner of education, will be the featured speaker at the Focus on Education Breakfast, “Home and Abroad: A Worldwide Perspective on Education.” The breakfast will be Wednesday, March 31, 2004 at 7:30 a.m. at the Park City Club located at 5956 Sherry Lane in Dallas. Mr. Nelson is also a former senior advisor to the Ministry of Education in Iraq and currently serves as senior vice president of state and federal relations for Voyager Expanded Learning

The St. Philip's Destiny Award recognizes those organizations and individuals who have demonstrated exceptional work towards bridging relationships between racial communities. The 2004 Destiny Awards Selection Committee chose Leadership Dallas Alumni organization as one of this year's recipients due to the organization's creation of Dallas Dinner Table.

Employers push less paper, recruit on-line
The traditional ad posting in the local newspaper is no longer enough to put job openings in front of qualified candidates. According to Nann Philips, recruitment and events specialist from The Dallas Morning News, companies are not aware of all the resources The Dallas Morning News provides for employers. “We have a variety of recruiting solutions including online postings, specialty publications and monthly job fairs,” says Philips.

Sports medicine director shows how to cut job stress
The 2004 Women’s Business Issues and Information Series (WBII) is a four-part professional development and networking breakfast series designed with the working woman in mind. The second presentation of the series will address “Stress Relief in the Work Place” on Thursday, March 25, 2004 at CityPlace Conference Center. Small business owners, mid-level managers and women starting their careers are encouraged to attend.

Chamber Resource Campaign underway
The Greater Dallas Chamber launched its 2004 Chamber Resource Campaign on February 27, 2004. The purpose of the campaign is to build the Chamber’s membership base and to provide the financial resources needed to implement the Chamber’s program of work, which impacts businesses throughout the region.

These funds will sustain programs like government relations, economic development, transportation and infrastructure, air quality & environment, international business, technology business, education & workforce and leadership development to name just a few.
