The Greater Dallas Chamber announced March 1 that it opposes the Blackwood Charter Amendments. The Chamber has carefully studied the issue, compared the Blackwood amendments to the current city charter and to other city charters which are posted on the chamber’s website. Chamber conducts analysis of strong mayor form of government
Greater Dallas Chamber Members: As you know, there will be an election in May to consider whether to amend the Dallas City Charter. The Chamber's Executive Committee and Charter Review Committee have been studying this multi-faceted issue. We have had a legal analysis done both of the proposed Charter Amendments and a legal review of other strong mayor forms of government with a particular focus on checks and balances in those systems compared with the Blackwood proposal.

Chamber supports renewed Trade Promotion Authority
Since 1974, U.S. Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) has allowed the executive branch to negotiate free trade agreements (FTAs) limiting Congress to voting without amendment. Though Presidents Nixon, Carter, Regan, Bush Sr. and Bush have had fast track negotiating authority, from 1994 to 2002 it was not granted by Congress which is one reason why before 2002, the U.S. was party to only three of 131 trade and investment agreements in force worldwide.
