DFW on track with regional innovation center
The Alliance for Higher Education (AHE) is pleased to announce that Governor Perry's Emerging Technology Advisory Committee has accepted North Texas region's proposal to form the North Texas Regional Center for Innovation and Commercialization (RCIC). This proposal, while developed around the long-standing, regional non-profit AHE organization, was broadly supported by a coalition of educational, economic development and other organizations from across the region. The Greater Dallas, Fort Worth and Arlington Chambers were among those active in this group.

Hard-target strategy will draw companies to DFW
The Chamber's economic development department has developed an innovative plan to recruit companies to the region. The hard-target marketing program is a strategic effort to identify companies for which DFW should be an attractive location.

DISD chief will brief Chamber on schools' vision
Dr. Michael Hinojosa, general superintendent of DISD, will address "Great Expectations for DISD" at the Chamber's annual State of the District Luncheon Sept. 20. The program will update the business community on the district's affairs.

BusinessPlace to feature new products, top speakers
The latest products, dynamic speakers and new business opportunities are expected to draw thousands to BusinessPlace 2005, the region's largest business-to-business trade show. The show is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 26 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Dallas Market Hall, 2200 N. Stemmons Freeway.

State legislators to outline newest healthcare reforms
The regular session of the 79th Texas Legislature saw several changes in healthcare policy. Lawmakers partially restored funding for the Children's Health Insurance Plan (CHIP) to include dental, vision, hospice, and mental health benefits. CHIP also received additional money for enrollment.

Book it! Chamber, Scholastic support back to school fair
An estimated 60,000 people poured into Fair Park on Aug. 11 to receive school supplies, haircuts and dental exams. The Mayor's Back to School Fair, a one-stop shop for economically disadvantaged children and families who live in Dallas, provides the resources necessary to begin the school year successfully.

Int'l Business Achievement Awards to honor area's ambassadors
The Chamber's premiere international business program, the International Business Achievement Awards, will recognize the region's former and current ambassador at its annual luncheon. The event is set for Wednesday, Sept. 14, noon-1:30 p.m. at the Adam's Mark Hotel, 400 N. Olive St. in Dallas.

Fed Bank's Fisher heads Economic Forum speakers
Richard W. Fisher, president and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, will address The Chamber's seventh annual Economic Forum luncheon on Tuesday, Oct. 4 at Cityplace Conference Center. Morning panels and presentations on the economy precede the luncheon.
